Charities and Good Causes
Beds and Bars have a long history of working with charities, to support good causes whenever and wherever it can. The following is a summary of the charities we have supported in the past and those that we are currently working with.
The Rona Sailing Trust
The Rona sailing Trust has received over £1 million over the past ten years, thanks to the fundraising efforts of Beds and bars. Because of this the Rona Trust is able to take around 1000 disadvantaged children to sea every year – to experience offshore sailing adventures and team work skill development, in three purpose built sailing yachts.

Build Africa
Beds and Bars Ltd have entered into a partnership with UK-based charity, Build Africa to support the Minyalala Primary School. This is an under-resourced school in the Mwala District of Kenya. We are committed to working with Build Africa and the local community to transform Minyalala, and help children reach their full potential.
With the support of Beds and Bars Ltd, the school will receive a new lease of life. Two new classrooms and four toilets will be built in 2011, training will be implemented for teachers and the management committee, a new health club will be formed with a focus on HIV and AIDS prevention, and new textbooks, and sports equipment will be provided.

Just a Drop
In August 2010 – the division of Beds and Bars in Amsterdam began a Europe wide fundraising project for Just a Drop. This small organisation builds wells and water pumps, and implements health and sanitation programs in developing countries. They employ a hands-on mentality, with very little bureaucracy.
In Amsterdam a very efficient way of raising funds for Just a Drop was developed. Every time a guest checks into the hostel – they are asked for a one euro deposit in exchange for a key card. At the end of the stay guests drop their key card off in a box. By simply doing this and choosing not to collect their deposit, they automatically donate the one euro to Just a Drop.
Other St Christopher hostels and Belushi’s bars are currently following up this fundraising initiative with their own charity projects. If you want to know more about Just a Drop and what they do, visit their website - http://www.justadrop.org
Australian Bush Fire
Following the devastation caused by the Australian Bush Fire in 2009 every Belushi’s bar across Europe went to work raising money for the Red Cross Australian Bush Fire Appeal. As a sign of solidarity with the many Australians working within Beds and Bars, special fundraising events were held in Edinburgh, London, Bath, Newquay, Brighton, Paris, Berlin, Bruges and Amsterdam.
